Of the approximately 650 licensed home inspectors in Massachusetts, only about 80 are also certified members of the American Society of Home Inspectors. ASHI is the premier association of home inspectors. Before you can even apply to become a certified member of ASHI, you must have completed at least 250 fee paid home inspections. You must submit your inspection reports for review and approval and you must pass 2 rigorous written examinations. You must comply with the society's code of ethics and commit to annual continuing education that significantly exceeds the state license requirements. Click on the ASHI icon at the left for more information.

Many home inspectors are in and out of an inspection in less than 2 hours and hand the client a hastily written checklist report. I treat my clients as a professional. I typically spend 3 hours or more on the inspection with my client at my side asking questions, helping them to understand the house they are about to buy, its good points and bad, what needs to be corrected in both the short and long term. In short, I teach my client how to maintain their investment. My report is professionally prepared and type written and may be 20 to 30 pages long with digital photographs that clearly illustrate the defects found. The inspection doesn't end until all of my client's questions have been asked and answered. It's not just an inspection, it's an education.
